Parfait Your Monday

So TCBY (yes the awesome yogurt shop very popular in the 1980's) has special offers on their treats for different days of the week. I know this because I go there a lot...a lot of a lot. My usual is just a twist of chocolate and vanilla in a cake cone though, nothing crazy. Sometimes when I am feeling like a change up I'll splurge and get a parfait with fruit and nuts. Whoooa..I know, slow down!

A couple months ago TCBY introduced a new flavor. When I heard of the new flavor being announced I couldn't believe it! This flavor is right up my ally. Out of excitement I made sure to tell all of my friends know about it asap...the flavor? Greek Yogurt!! Being a huge Greek yogurt fan, the arrival of this product was hugely anticipated and long awaited. The night before it came out I was so excited that I couldn't sleep. "What will it taste like? Will it be too sweet? It better be thick and creamy? What if it tastes like plain old vanilla????" Ok, I did think these things but I didn't lose any sleep over it..I promise.

The morning of the official launch I woke up with a plan; Go to yoga and then be the first to try the Greek. So after yoga I marched right across the street and ordered away. 1 kiddy sized cone to go. Feeling like a small child on Christmas the cone size was appropriate. Upon being handed my cone I left rather swiftly with a smile on my face because it's weird to me to eat ice cream (yogurt....)that early in the day...especially alone, with no kids.
My Review: Overall it is a great flavor! Very thick and doesn't have the "star" type swirl like the other flavors, making it tough to eat on a cone unless you devour it quickly. I could get technical with the swirling here but I'll save you.   Sometimes Greek is in the same machine as Cookies and Cream...if this happens YOU MUST swirl them together.

Being that it is Monday I decided to post my own Parfait recipe from the weekend. I am using real Greek yogurt here..this is just a guide though, so go crazy with your Parfait Your Way Monday!
1 6oz Container of Fage 2% Plain Greek Yogurt
1/2 Sliced Banana
1/3 Cup Granola (I used locally made Simply Suzanne)
1/4 cup/+ Blueberries
Local Honey to Drizzle

Layer away with the above ingredients. I like to keep my fruit in separate layers so I get a different flavor and texture with each bite. Spread the granola out too..maybe 2-3 layers there. Top with the granola and a honey drizzle and enjoy!

P.S. This 2% Fage gives you 20 grans of protein. I read the labels on all of the different brands to see which one has the most protein and the least amount of sugar. This is my #1. There is a TOTAL version available with even more protein and a lot more fat. GREAT for the CF crew trying to maintain or gain weight!

Enjoy!

Saturday Seven & Salad

Today is the Out Run CF Virtual run that I/Rock CF put on along with my buds at CysticLife.org! We have done two of these in the past and decided on a nice May run to commemorate CF Awareness month. Roughly 200 people from around the country, Canada, and Paris-France have already run today or are running today to raise awareness about cystic fibrosis. I love it! This a.m. I popped out of bed wide awake at 6..sometimes when this happens I'm a little peeved because it's the weekend and mama needs her beauty rest. Not today apparently! I had a quick coffee, toasted pita with almond butter and a banana and watched some Dennis the Menace reruns. By 7:30am I was out the door on a cool 7 mile run.

After the run I had some steel cuts with flax seed, coconut oil, cinnamon, greek yogurt and prunes. Yep prunes are how I roll now....magic.

Steph and I hit up Eastern Market this am too. One word. Madhouse..or is it Mad House? That would be two words. Oh well...it wasn't even flower day and the place was real Crazy. I snagged some nice local spinach, beets, tomatoes and some kick ass infused olive oilThese ingredients made up my SaturdaySalad pictured above! Here's what is in that fiesta bowl:

Chopped spinach
Diced tomatoes with salt and pepper
Roasted beets
Roasted garlic
Cooked Quinoa
Baked Tofu
Drizzled with KenzOil (Did I say how good this shit is? I blew my last $5 on this stuff!)

Off to the 10th anniversary of the coolest fundraising event around, Sal's Pals! Sold out crowd of 500 and I am hosting tonight....can't wait to tell lies and make some money for the CFF!

Go Go Go....Lytely

Yep, I knew it was coming. Stomach cramps, bloating, completely irregular shits, nausea, feeling like a pregnant Octomom and big time loss of appetite...I know, that last one is scary! Oh and Gas..lots and lots of gas. So much that I had to schedule my yoga classes around it..that happy baby in yin was a little scary.

So today I saw my main man and CF Dr. Tom for my 2 month check up. PFT's were through the roof. I think they were the highest they have been on that adult clinic machine. FEV was 85! When I blow at my study visits on the Pediatric side they are always higher than the adult side...that's where I blew the 93 & 95'er. So lungs are amazing and blue lightning continues to strike.

I lost a few lbs since last visit and that's gotta be due to my obstruction and non regular eating. Distal Intestinal Obstruction Syndrome, or DIOS is what my main CF problem is these days..other than running or cycling related crap. So every couple months I start to get a little blocked up or obstructed in my intestines..The symptoms which I described above are how I know it is coming on. My "maintenance" routine is Miralax every other day and of course, proper amounts of naturally occurring fiber, Good Belly and more probiotics! I do all of this and still, every two months are so things get blocked up. C'est la vie! I can breathe, so I guess I can deal with the shitter issues.

And here I am on this 90 degree day, with no A/C, pounding 4 liters of G2 Fruit Punch induced Golytely. I've taken so much of this shit that I swear an endorsement is due. I can see it now on that back of my bike jersey, "Golytely, always on the move." Normal people only drink Golytely when they turn 50 and they need that colonoscopy; but when you have CF you may drink it more in a half a year than most people do in a lifetime. When I first started drinking this stuff years ago it would take 4-5 hours to knock back...now my record is 2 hours and 10 minutes...so cheers to PR'ing!

Red is definitely not advised if you are having a colonoscopy the next day...But I do it for fun!

Always gulping it from the Polyamy Porter glass for good luck!

See you when I'm 5 lbs lighter and faster than lightning!
